Police arrest driver who was six times the limit - and had no front tyres

A drunk driver who took to the wheel on New Year’s Day while more than five times over the limit was driving on a tyre worn down to the metal.

Stunned police officers posted details about the incident online after detaining a man for drink driving.

He was pulled over on the M66 by patrolling officers when they noticed that he was driving on a tyre that was completely worn down to the metal.

Officers were stunned to see the car running on totally flat tyres (NW MotorwayPolice)

Officers described the incident as “unbelievable”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The driver gave a breath test at the roadside in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

He was found to be more than five times over the legal limit to drive, police said.

The drink-driving limit for drivers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.

The driver had 196 micrograms of alcohol in breath, according to the North West Motorway Police.

A post on the NW Motorway Police Facebook page read: “Male been detained for drink drive on the M66 - has blown 196 (YES THATS 196!!) at the roadside - as you can see from the photos you can see why it came to our notice @GMPtraffic #unbelievable #neednewwheels”
