Police are warning the public not to approach escaped prisoner who could be violent

Police have issued a warning after a potentially violent prisoner escaped from a Lancashire jail.

Michael Doherty, who has a tattoo saying 'Mary' on his left arm, absconded from HMP Kirkham on Saturday, June 29.

The 27-year-old, from Cheshire, has links to Manchester.

Police are urging members of the public to not approach him as he 'could be violent'.

Anyone who sees him is asked to contact police instead.

Doherty was jailed at Chester Crown Court in November 2018 for offences including dangerous driving and burglary, police said.

He has an Irish accent and a tattoo with the name 'Mary' on his left arm.
