Police are not treating Knowle stabbing as terrorism related - man remains in custody

Police have confirmed they are not treating multiple stabbings in Knowle as terrorism related.

Officers cordoned off a section of Wells road, near Broad Walk, yesterday (February 25) and a man was arrested at the scene.

Three people were taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary after a man on roller skates launched a knife attack.

Two men, one aged in his 20s and the other in his 50s, suffered stab wounds. The third man, also aged in his 20s, sustained a head injury - he has been discharged from hospital.

As of 9am this morning, the arrested man, who is in his 30s, remains in custody.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "While we’re keeping an open mind about the motive, we can confirm we’re not treating the incident as terrorism."

Ch Insp Colston later moved to reassure residents, saying: “This kind of incident is extremely rare in Bristol and while we’re keeping an open mind about it,

“I’d like to reassure people we do not believe it to be terrorism."

Officers used a Taser to detain the suspect at the scene.

Witness Gary Stancer has described to Bristol Live the moment his friend was attacked.

He was in a pub with his friend Rob Day when he said he saw a man had been stabbed. They rushed out to help and, he says, his friend Rob was then attacked.

"He said to me I've been stabbed," said Gary. "A man with a red shirt, whoever the man with the red shirt is a hero.

"Rob was stabbed, he said to me 'I've been stabbed'. The man with the red shirt stepped in. I picked up a sign and hit him. I fell over.

"We chased him up the road."

Wells Road has been reopened.
