'Police are not there to look after each other when they break the law'

Scores of police officers across the United Kingdom are avoiding dismissal after being convicted of drink-driving despite Home Office guidelines that say they should usually be sacked or forced to resign because of the seriousness of the offence.

Using freedom of information requests, Ian Cobain has uncovered statistics that show scores of police officers are getting away with drink-driving offences .
