Police are hiring people to deal with emergency calls in Edinburgh – and this is what it pays

Police Scotland is hiring in Edinburgh, with people needed to deal with emergency and non-emergency calls in the service centre.

The force is encouraging anyone who can remain calm and focused under pressure, and has "excellent communication and interpersonal skills" to put themselves forward for one of the service advisor roles, based at Bilston Glen in Loanhead.

They'll be required to help provide 24-hour help and assistance to the public, taking 999 and 101 calls, while also providing critical and accurate information to the Area Control Rooms.

The roles are permanent and average out 35 hours each week, with a salary of £23,630 plus monthly allowances. Anyone wishing to apply will need to do so before the closing date on 13 February.

Police Scotland insist the roles are being made available following "reorganisation", saying: "You will need to be flexible and able to prioritise enquiries in a fast-paced dynamic environment."

They add: "As part of our Service Centre team you will bring your excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You'll need empathy, discretion and resilience to provide the highest possible standard of service and assistance to people who need our help.

"This is a unique role where you can be proud of the job you do and where you can become part of a team from a diverse range of backgrounds who all contribute to keeping people safe."
