Police appeal to trace off-duty doctor who went to aid of assault victim

UPDATE: Police have confirmed the doctor has now come forward.

Police want to trace an off-duty doctor who went to the aid of a man assaulted in a North Somerset village.

The assault happened in Silver Moor Lane, Banwell, at around 1.45pm on New Year’s Day.

A 63-year-old man needed hospital treatment for cuts and bruising to his head.

The woman, an off-duty doctor, stopped to help the injured man.

However police enquiries to trace the woman have so far proved unsuccessful.

Police are now hoping publishing a picture will encourage the woman to come forward to help with their enquiries.

A police spokesman said: “Officers would like to thank the woman, an off-duty doctor who stopped to help the injured man.

“Police also want check whether she has any information which could help the investigation.

“Officers have made a number of enquiries locally to trace her but these have been unsuccessful.”

A 39-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident remains under investigation following his arrest on the day of the incident.

Police are appealing to the woman herself or anyone with information which could help to get in touch through www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact or call 101, quoting reference 5220000439.
