Police are appealing for public help to identify the body of a man found in Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to a creek in the northern suburb of Coburg about 2.30pm on Friday and discovered the deceased man in water near Moreland Road.

Police said they had been unable to identify the man and officers were keen to speak with anyone who might have been in the area at the time.

The man was last seen wearing a light-coloured shirt, black shorts and black runners.

Police are yet to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Investigations remain ongoing.
