Police appeal to find stolen hospital drugs that are 'only safe in the hands of qualified medics'

Police are appealing for help to recover a batch of drugs stolen from a hospital.

Officers in Cheshire say there was a break-in at Macclesfield General Hospital at around 8.30pm on Thursday night.

A quantity of 'controlled drugs' were stolen from the theatre area of the hospital.

The majority has since been recovered, police say.

Stephen Hague, 42, of Habour Farm Road in Hyde, was arrested at 5.40pm on Friday and has since been charged.

Police are now appealing for help recovering the remainder of the drugs that have not been located.

Cheshire Police said in a statement that the drugs 'are only safe in the hands of qualified medical personnel.'

'Even when taken in small doses the drugs can be potentially lethal."

'Anyone in possession of any of the stolen drugs is urged to hand them into their local police station.'

Police also said that anyone who has been offered the chance to buy any of the drugs, or has any information regarding their whereabouts, is asked to contact Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 485431, or via  www.cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries .
