Police appeal over van driver who hit cyclist and then drove off

A van driver hit a cyclist and then drove off, triggering a police appeal to them.

The incident happened in Weston-super-Mare on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: "It was reported to us at about 2.30pm.

"The cyclist – believed to be a man in his 20s - was involved in a collision with a van in Broadway near to the Tesco Express and Atlantic fish bar.

"The van stopped briefly but then left the scene.

"The cyclist has been taken to Weston General Hospital as a precaution."

Police said the vehicle was described as a white unmarked Transit-type van.

"We’re appealing for witnesses to the collision and would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident," the statement added.
