Police appeal over man missing from Rutherglen

Police are appealing to trace a 51-year-old man missing from his Rutherglen home.

James Brian Hampson, known as Brian, was last seen around 4.40am on Thursday in Hardie Avenue, walking in the direction of Fraser Avenue in the South Lanarkshire town.

He was reported missing to police by his family yesterday.

Brian is described as "white, around 5ft 10 inches in height and of medium build with fair coloured short hair and he wears glasses." He is thought to be wearing blue jeans and a black jacket.

Inspector Neil MacLeod of Lanarkshire Division said: “Brian has never been missing before and it is totally out of character for him not to keep in contact with his family and friends. He has been dealing with some personal issues lately and his family and police are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety and wellbeing.

“Searches and enquiries have been carried out in the Rutherglen area to trace him, and we are now asking for the assistance of the public who may have information on his whereabouts to contact us. We believe that he has taken his car, and enquiries are being carried out to trace his silver Citroen C4 with the registration number SL07 JWV.”

Anyone with any information regarding Brian’s whereabouts, or who has seen his vehicle is asked to contact Rutherglen Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 4305 of 21st June.
