Police appeal for witnesses after car was set alight in the Gilmerton area on Saturday

Police in Edinburgh have appealed for witnesses after a car was set on fire in Gilmerton last night.

The incident happened around 10.30pm on Saturday, 11 April, when a fire was deliberately started to a motor vehicle parked in Rutherford Drive in the Inch in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called and the fire was quickly brought under control.

Three male suspects wearing tracksuits with hoods were spotted in the area at the time of the wilful fire raising.

Detective Constable Christina Yeoman, of Gayfield CID, said:

“Thankfully the fire was quickly brought under control by the fire service. However the consequences of this act could have been much worse and we are eager to trace those responsible.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen men matching this description or any suspicious vehicles in the area at the time”.

Anyone with information that can assist in our investigations can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 4700 of 11 April, or can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
