Newcastle police have issued a public appeal to speak with a woman who they believe may have witnessed a fatal collision between a truck and cyclist in King Street last year.

Police said on Friday that the woman was walking across a King Street pedestrian crossing on March 20 last year when the accident happened. They have asked the woman to contact Newcastle police.

They also appealed for information from any other witnesses who had not yet spoken to police.

A 56-year-old woman on her bike died after colliding with a truck turning left from King Street into Perkins Street.

The woman was unconscious when emergency crews arrived.

Paramedics treated her, but she went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene of the incident.

The truck driver was uninjured and taken to the Mater Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have seen the cyclist or truck prior to the collision or who may have dashcam footage to contact Newcastle police.
