Police appeal for information following murder of teenager Rhamero West

Police are urging anyone with information following the murder of Rhamero West to come forward - saying 'a family has lost a young son and they're deserving of answers".

Officers were called to Norton Street in Old Trafford just before 6pm on Thursday (September 9) evening.

Rhamero - known to many as 'Mero' - was found with horrific injuries and a number of stab wounds.

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital where he sadly later died.

No arrests have been made.

In a statement issued this evening, GMP’s Chief Superintendent Paul Savill said the investigation into Rhamero's murder was ‘continuing at pace’.

“A murder investigation is continuing at pace following the fatal stabbing of a teenager,” Savill said.

“Police were called to Norton Street in Trafford just before 6pm yesterday evening.

Rhamero West (Handout)

“Emergency services found a 16-year-old boy who we can now confirm to be Rhamero West from South Manchester.

“He had suffered a number of stab wounds.

“Officers and emergency services were swift to respond and provided vital medical treatment before Rhamero was taken to hospital.

“Sadly, despite their best efforts, he died a short time later.

“Our thoughts at this time are with Rhamero's family.

“Specialist officers have been supporting his mum, dad and brother through this distressing time and continue to do so.”

Earlier reports suggested Rhamero and three friends were in a blue BMW being pursued by another vehicle in a high-speed chase.

As they tried to evade the other vehicle, their car crashed and the four ran away.

Rhamero is then thought to have slipped and caught by two unknown people who attacked him.

He was slashed and stabbed in both legs with a machete and knife.

Police believe all those involved are aged 16 to 19.

Chf Supt Savill said that it was of the utmost importance that anyone with information into Rhamero's murder came forward to police.

He added: “As the area commander, my officers and I know the considerable impact this tragic incident will have on all our communities.

“We have specialist resources supporting our major incident team as they do everything they can to bring the offenders to justice.

“This is a dynamic investigation and we understand Rhamero was attacked by two males.

“We need your help. A family has lost a young son and they're deserving of answers.

“I would urge you to place yourself in their shoes and think how you would feel if this has happened to a member of your own family.

“If you have information that could assist us in providing those answers, please come forward and speak with officers.”

Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to call 101 quoting log number 2613, September 9; or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
