Police appeal for information after youths gather to drink booze and set fires

Lanarkshire cops are are appealing for information following an incident of anti-social behaviour in Uddingston.

Around 5.50 pm yesterday, officers were called to the Porters Well area where large groups of youths from a number of different council areas had congregated.

The teens were drinking alcohol and setting fires in nearby woods.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with this incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

Inspector Roger Bond, of Police Scotland’s Lanarkshire community policing, said: “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and working with our partner agencies, we will have increased patrols in the area over the coming days.

“I would ask if anyone has any information regarding those involved to get in contact with police.

“People should not travel outwith their local authority area except for essential purposes and I would urge people to stay local and follow the regulations on gatherings.

“Our approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage with the public, explain the legislation and encourage compliance, but we will not hesitate to use our enforcement powers as a last resort.

“Anyone with any information surrounding this incident can contact police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 2495 of Tuesday, 7 April, 2021.”
