Police appeal for information after young woman is left in "considerable distress" because she was followed by a stranger in Paisley

A sinister creep who followed three women through Paisley in separate incidents is being tracked by police.

Officers were contacted after a man approached a woman in Springbank Road around 11.35pm on Saturday.

He struck up a conversation with her before following her for a short time.

A member of the public assisted the lady and the man ran off. The incident caused the young woman considerable distress.

Police enquiries into this incident have established that two other women were also approached and followed in the town centre the same evening.

Officers are now asking these women - who were approached between 10.55pm and 11.15pm - to come forward.

The man cops want to speak to is described as white, around 5ft 10ins tall, in his mid-20s, with short dark hair.

He was wearing dark-coloured jeans, a dark T-shirt and a long-sleeved white or cream jacket.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the area following the incident to offer reassurance to members of the public.

Anyone with concerns can approach these officers.

Detective Constable Kate Wason said: “I am appealing to members of the public who were in the town centre that day to think back and consider if they saw this man or if they noticed anything odd or suspicious.

“Even if you think your information isn’t relevant, please do pass it on as it could prove vital in our ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.
