Police appeal for information after woman is spotted in Scots river

Police are appealing for information after a woman was spotted in the River Tay.

Officers were dealing with reports of a female in the water near to Commercial Street in Perth last night (Tuesday) at around 9pm.

Today cops are continuing their inquiries by reviewing CCTV footage in the area and taking witness statements.

The woman is described as having a dark hair and wearing a light coloured jacket.

Police are appealing for information but say there are no ongoing searching of the river at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers in Perth are continuing with inquiries today (Wednesday, December 23), into a report that a woman was seen in the water near Commercial Street around 9.00pm last night.

"At this time officers are reviewing CCTV footage in the area and taking witness statements to ascertain if anyone did enter the water.

"There are currently no ongoing searches of the River Tay.

"Anyone who can assist police inquiries should call 101 and quote incident number 3321 of 22 December."
