Police appeal for information after van stolen and set alight in Milngavie

POLICE have appealed for information after a van was stolen and set alight in a Scottish town.

Officers said a Ford Transit van was reported stolen from Dumgoyne Avenue in Milngavie at 3:10pm on Monday.

Soon after, at 3:30pm, another report was received saying the van was on fire about a mile northwest of the town centre.

Goods with a value estimated at £6000 were stolen from the van, which was damaged beyond repair, costing over £40,000.

The vehicle is described as a dark blue Ford Transit van, with the registration LC21 OWR.

Detective Constable Ciara Nicoll said: "We are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch, from initial investigation we are aware of a second van involved in the incident, namely a white coloured Ford Transit.      “In addition, anyone who was driving in the area around the time of the incident and may have dash-cam footage that would help with our investigation is asked to call us.”   Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101 quoting reference number 2015 of November 27.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
