Police appeal for information after fatal road crash in Hamilton

Police are appealing for information following a fatal road crash involving a pedestrian in Hamilton.

The incident happened around 7.35pm on Sunday, January 5, when a silver Seat Ibiza struck a man on Glasgow Road, Burnbank.

Emergency services attended but a 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for around seven hours to allow investigations to take place.

Sergeant Andy Shearer, of Lanarkshire Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family of the victim and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“I would ask that anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the collision to get in contact.

“I would also urge anyone with dashcam footage that may assist with our investigation to come forward to police.”

Police Scotland can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 2787 of January 5, 2020.

South Lanarkshire Council posted on Facebook last night warning motorists of the road closure.

They said: “The A724 Glasgow Road, Burnbank is closed Hamilton-bound between traffic light junction and roundabout at BP garage due to an accident.”

The road has now re-opened.
