A car has been destroyed after reportedly being set alight in Downpatrick .
Police say they were alerted to reports of the car on fire on the Killough Road area in the early hours of Sunday 1 December.
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, which left a trail of burnt grass along the Model Farm hill.
Sergeant Logan said: “We received the report that a car was on fire, just before 5.00 am.
“Colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the blaze, the vehicle was completely destroyed.”
“Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone with any information to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 435 of 1/12/19.”
Sinn Féin Councillor for Downpatrick Oonagh Hanlon told Belfast Live that she is "extremely disappointed and angered."
She said: "Time and again it is this locality suffering at the hands of anti social elements. It is a miracle no one was seriously injured or killed. The PSNI need to step up and ensure a robust investigation into this incident to apprehend the people responsible.
"These offenders should face the full rigours of the law. The residents of this area and wider Downpatrick are fed up being held to ransom by those who care not for the safety of others."
