Police appeal for help finding missing woman and young girl near Reading

(Thames Valley Police)

Police in Thames Valley are appealing for public assistance in the search for a 37-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl who have been missing for more than three weeks. Officers said they are “extremely concerned” for their welfare.

The missing woman has been identified as Sally-Jean. She was last seen with the child, named Ava, in Tilehurst, near Reading, on August 25. The pair were officially reported missing on Monday, prompting an urgent investigation.

Ava is described as Black, with an Afro hairstyle. Sally-Jean is white, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, with long brown hair and green eyes. Police noted that she has distinctive tattoos, including a large one on her lower right arm, which could help in identifying her.

Inspector Iain Watkinson of Thames Valley Police stressed the seriousness of the case. “We are extremely concerned for the welfare of Sally-Jean and Ava, and we have been working hard to find them since they were reported missing on Monday,” he said.

The Inspector appealed directly to the community for help. “We are now appealing for the public’s help. Anyone with information on their whereabouts should call 101 or make a report on our website,” he added.

Since the report, officers have been conducting searches in the Reading area, as well as reaching out to communities in Caversham and Tilehurst, where Sally-Jean is known to have personal connections. Police are also working with partner agencies and reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to track the movements of both individuals after they were last seen.

Community members have begun sharing the missing persons appeal online in hopes of reaching anyone who might have seen them. Police believe that raising public awareness is vital to bringing in new leads.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of reporting even small pieces of information that may seem insignificant, as these details could help trace the pair’s steps. Officers continue to reassure the public that they are prioritizing the case and are dedicating resources to find both Sally-Jean and Ava.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward immediately. Reports can be made by calling 101 or submitting details through the Thames Valley Police website. Anonymous tips are also accepted.

As the search intensifies, police remain hopeful that with the cooperation of the public, Sally-Jean and Ava can be located and safely reunited with loved ones.
