Police appeal for dashcam footage after pedestrian killed on busy East Kilbride road

Enquiries are continuing after a pedestrian died following a collision with a car on a busy East Kilbride road at the weekend..

The incident happened around 8.30pm on Friday, on the northbound carriageway between the Whitemoss and Whirlies roundabouts, on the A725 Kingsway.

A 50-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a Volkswagen Golf car.

Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene and police are asking for anyone with dashcam footage of the area on Friday evening to contact them.

The 40-year-old male driver was uninjured.

He has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries are ongoing.

The road was closed for several hours to allow an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant Andy Currie, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident.

“We would be keen to speak to anyone with information or anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area on Friday evening.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 3647 of 23 September.”

Elsewhere, an 81-year-old female driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a separate two-car smash earlier on Friday.

The happened on Glasgow Road at the junction with Cairnmuir Road on the A749 in East Kilbride at around 9.30am on Friday.

The elderly driver of a black Volkswagen Polo was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries.

No update has been given on her condition.

The 23-year-old male driver was taken to Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride with minor injuries and later discharged.

Police say enquiries into the crash are ongoing and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

They are also particularly keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash who have not yet spoken to the police or who may have dashcam footage.
