Police appeal following assault on taxi driver in Byker

Officers investigating a vicious assault on a taxi driver in Newcastle have released an image of a man they would like to trace.

It was reported that two men had used a taxi to drive them to an address on Ayton Street in the Byker area shortly after 4am on Monday, April 11. It was said that both men became verbally abusive and proceeded to assault the taxi driver on arrival.

The men kicked and punched the driver, a 32-year-old man. The two offenders then left the vehicle and entered the address they had been driven to.

It is alleged both men then returned outside and caused damage to the door and front bumper of the car. An investigation has been ongoing since the incident, and as part of their enquiries, officers have identified a man who they would like to trace.
