Police appeal as moored boat sinks after fire deliberately started on board

A fire was deliberately started on a boat moored at a pier in Balloch in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at about 12.30am on Saturday at River Leven Moorings, Pier Road.

Local officers on patrol noticed the fire on a 33ft cruiser, and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended. The fire was extinguished but the boat subsequently sank.

Police Scotland are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward to help with enquiries.

Detective Inspector Andy Doherty, CID, Police Scotland, said: "We believe this fire was started deliberately and are appealing for anyone who may have information or who may have seen anyone hanging around the River Leven Moorings either late on Friday evening or very early Saturday morning, to come forward."

Information can be provided to Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident 0132 on 21 September 2019, or reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
