Police appeal as child yobs set fire to Airdrie train during journey

Police are appealing for information after two boys travelling on a train to Airdrie set fire to a seat and pressed the emergency button.

British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating the vandalism on board a Balloch to Airdrie service last month, which they say cost almost £5000 in damage and delays.

The incident happened between 9.40am and 10.10am on Wednesday, April 3.

The boys got off the train at Dalmuir station in Clydebank and continued to act in a disorderly manner.

Police say they got into a confrontation with a person who refused to allow them to re-board the service.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, especially the person who attempted to stop the suspects from boarding the train, and another who filmed the boys on their phone at Dalmuir station.

The first suspect is described as white, around 12-years-old, slimly built and wearing a khaki green hooded jacket, Nike jogging bottoms and trainers.

The second suspect is also white and of slim build, around 13-years-old and wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark jogging bottoms and trainers.

Witnesses can contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 and quoting reference 156 of April 3, 2019.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
