Police appeal after woman sexually assaulted in Wirral park

Police are appealing for information after a woman was attacked in a Wirral park.

Officers were called to Coronation Gardens in West Kirby at around 11.40pm last night following reports that a woman in her 20's had been sexually assaulted.

The woman was taken to hospital and is currently being supported by specialist officers.

Coronation Gardens is in a popular part of West Kirby, near to the Marine Lake and the promenade.

The park was cordoned off on Easter Sunday morning with many local residents and nearby café owners wondering what was going on.

One dog walker, who did not wish to be named, said: "I normally walk my dog in here at around 8am but the park was all cordoned off, you couldn't get through either side and there were lots of police around."

A staff member at Green Onions Cafe said: "We heard something might be going on in the park as customers were coming in saying it was taped off and that there were forensic teams there."
