Police appeal after woman found injured in Falls Park river

A woman found injured in a river in West Belfast last night remains in hospital this afternoon, police say.

Issuing an appeal for information, the PSNI said it received a report shortly before 6.40pm on Wednesday that the female had been found in Falls Park.

Sergeant Begley said: “The woman was taken to hospital, where she remains.

"Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of how the woman sustained her injuries and police in Woodbourne would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything in the area to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1653 15/07/20.”

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service told Belfast Live: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 18:52 on Wednesday 15 July following reports of a female in an unconscious state near the river in the Falls Park, Belfast.

"NIAS despatched a Rapid Response Paramedic and an Emergency Crew to the incident.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, the patient was taken, by ambulance, to RVH."

SDLP West Belfast representative Paul Doherty said: "My thoughts are with this lady and her family, I hope she can make a quick recovery."
