Police appeal after man's body found in Regent's Canal

Detectives have appealed for witnesses after a body was recovered from Regent’s Canal.

Police were called to the scene near Rodheswell Road at 7.11am on Wednesday following reports of a body in the water.

The body of a man named Ali Liaquat, 55, was recovered.

His next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination showed no signs of injuries that may have resulted in his death.

The death is not being treated as suspicious but officers are working to establish how Ali ended up in the water.

Officers from the Central East Command Unit are asking anyone who may have seen Ali before his death - especially in the vicinity of Turners Road and Rhodeswell Road - to make contact.
