Police appeal after man in his 20s hit by a van in Wavertree

A man in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital after he was hit by a van in Wavertree.

The emergency services were called out to the junction of Tunnel Road and Harbord Street at around 12.45pm today after reports of a collision involving a transit van and a  man in his 20s.  The driver of the van stopped at the scene.

Police closed the busy junction by the Durning Arms pub while paramedics tended to the man. A spokesman for the ambulance service said that they sent a senior clinician to the scene to assist paramedics.

The  pedestrian was taken to hospital. Police said his condition was 'serious but not life threatening.'

A police spokesman said to the ECHO : "We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Liverpool this afternoon, Wednesday, 1 May.  Emergency services were called to near the junction of Tunnel Road and Harbord Street at around 12.45pm to reports of a collision involving a transit van and a male pedestrian in his 20s.

"The male was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries described as serious but not thought to be life threatening at this stage.  The driver stopped at the scene to assist with enquiries.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting ref. 399 or the Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747."
