Police appeal after man, 24, struck across the face in frightening late-night mugging

Police have issued an appeal for help after a 24-year-old man was struck across the face in a terrifying late-night mugging.

At around 12.20am on Saturday, April 17, police were called to reports of a robbery on Church Lane in Prestwich, Bury.

Officers discovered that an hour earlier, approximately 11.30pm, a 24-year-old man was approached by another man who asked to borrow his phone.

After the victim handed his phone across for the man to borrow, the man proceeded to strike the victim across the face and made off with the phone, according to Greater Manchester Police.

The victim suffered minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing, say the force.

Any witnesses or people with information are being urged to contact the police as enquiries continue.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 8180, quoting incident number 68 of 17/04/2021.

Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Greater Manchester Victims' Services provide emotional and practical support to anyone affected by crime and are a confidential service. The service can be contacted by visiting the website on www.gmvictims.org.uk or calling 0161 200 1950.
