Police appeal after knife-wielding thug attempts to rob shop in Renfrew

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery took place at a shop in Renfrew last night.

At around 9.30pm a man entered J&D Lifestyle on Paisley Road before brandishing a knife and demanding money from the 44-year-old shopkeeper.

Nobody was injured during the incident and the suspect then made off on foot empty handed.

The suspect is described as slim build with a gaunt appearance, wearing a black jacket with the hood up, a yellow scarf covering his face and grey jogging bottoms.

Man attacked and robbed of 'large quantity of cash' by armed thug in Rutherglen

Detective Constable Douglas MacFarlane, Paisley Police Office, said: “Although nobody was hurt and nothing was taken, this was a distressing incident for the shopkeeper and it is vital we trace the person responsible.

“Given the time of evening this incident occurred it is likely that there will have been people in the area at the time and we would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything, or knows anything about this incident to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 4450 of Sunday 31 March 2019. Alternatively you can contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
