Police appeal after HMP Castle Huntly prisoner missing after failing to return from home leave

Police officers are hunting for a prisoner who failed to return to an open prison in Perthshire.

Ryan Stewart (34), who is an inmate at HMP Castle Huntly in Longforgan, had been granted home leave - however he failed to return when scheduled, and was officially reported missing on Tuesday, March 3.

Officers have now sent out an appeal to help find him, but have also said if members of the public spot him, they are not to approach him.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of 34-year-old prisoner Ryan Stewart.

“Stewart is an inmate at HMP Castle Huntly who has failed to return from home leave.

“Stewart was reported missing at 11pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

“It is believed that he has connections in the Perth and Stanley area.

“He is described as being 5ft 11in tall, slim build, short brown hair and wearing glasses.

“He was last seen wearing a grey puffer style jacket, dark blue trousers and brown brogues.

“If seen, members of the public should not approach him and should contact Police Scotland on 101 or 999.

“Anyone wishing to provide information anonymously can do so through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
