Police appeal after collision leaves pedestrian in 'critical condition'

A pedestrian remains in critical condition after suffering serious injuries in a collision with a car on New Year's Eve.

Cheshire Police have appealed for information over the incident, which was reported at 6pm on December 31 on a bridge section of Derby Road crossing Watkinson Way.

A force spokeswoman said the pedestrian, a 49-year-old "local man" was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Kuga and suffered serious injuries.

Cheshire Police said the driver of the car stopped at the scene and has been assisting with enquiries.

Officers have urged anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Simon Degg, of Cheshire's Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The man remains in a critical condition in hospital following the collision and we have been following a number of enquiries.

"Derby Road would have been busy at this time of evening and we are urging anyone who has not yet spoken to us to please do so.

"As part of our investigation, we are specifically looking to speak to any pedestrians who were on the overbridge at the time of the collision and also any vehicles who were in the area."
