Police appeal after cars scorched in 'wilful fire-raising' at Paisley garage

Police are appealing for information after four cars were set alight in an incident in Paisley yesterday.

At around 11.55pm officers were called to a report of a fire at Overburn Automotive Ltd in Neilston Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and four vehicles within the yard were found to be on fire and extensively damaged.

Ikea Braehead returns to 'business as usual' following early morning blaze

Police Scotland say that from CCTV enquiries a man can be seen within the yard and deliberately setting the vehicles alight.

He then leaves the premises and gets into a waiting car which makes off in the direction of Neilston Road.

Detective constable, Jennifer Piggot, from Paisley CID said: “Extensive enquiries are underway to establish who is responsible for this reckless incident and why the business has been targeted.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Neilston Road just before midnight and saw a man acting suspiciously, or noticed a car waiting outside the premises, to please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists with dashcams who were in the area to check their footage in case they have managed to capture anything which could be a significance, such as a car driving away at excess speed."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley CID via 101, quoting incident number 4560 of Thursday 28 March 2019. Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
