Police appeal after car stolen in Rutherglen

A man tried to stop thieves from nicking his car while he was looking to buy a new one in a Rutherglen showroom.

The theft happened on Glasgow Road at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

Police said the man parked his silver Renault Megane near to the showroom. As he was looking onto the forecourt, his car was stolen. The man tried to prevent the thieves from stealing his car but he was unsuccessful.

The force said there is limited information on the thieves The suspects, however, may have had a heavy build and were wearing dark coloured clothing.

The car was later found burnt out in Dunure Drive, Rutherglen.

Officers are reviewing available CCTV footage for any additional information it could provide.

Detective Constable John Law said: “I am appealing to people who were in Glasgow Road around the time of the incident for any information.

“It’s usually a busy road with traffic so I would ask people with dashcams to check their footage as it’s possible they have captured images which could assist our investigation.

“In particular, I would appeal to local residents in Dunure Drive to consider if they saw the car or the suspects.

“Any small piece of information could prove significant as we piece together details of what has happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Cambuslang Police Station via 101 quoting incident number 1863 of 30 April 2020.
