Police appeal after car hit by man driving van in Wishaw street who sped off

Police are hunting the driver of a white van who smashed into a woman’s car in Wishaw before speeding off.

The incident, which happened at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, August 14, saw the Ford Transit van, described as being extremely rusty, plough into the side of a blue Peugeot in Till Street where it meets Langholm Crescent and drove off.

The woman driving the car was left shaken but not hurt.

Inspector Martin Spiers, from Motherwell Police Office, urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “There were no reports of any serious injuries but the crash caused significant damage to the car. We are currently checking CCTV and dash-cam footage of the incident.”

Eye witnesses told the Wishaw Press of hearing a loud bang before seeing a neighbour trying to race after the van in an attempt to get its registration plate.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “There were a lot of people in the street looking to help the woman.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
