Police appeal after 71-year-old pedestrian knocked down in Ashington collision

Witnesses who saw an elderly pedestrian being hit by a car in Ashington have been asked to come forward.

At around 5.22pm on Friday, February 5, the police received a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the northbound carriageway of the A189 near to the North Seaton roundabout.

Emergency services attended where it is understood that a 71-year-old male pedestrian had been crossing the road when he was hit by a blue Ford Fiesta.

The man was taken to hospital with what were initially described by paramedics as minor injuries.

However, his injuries have since been deemed serious but not life-threatening and he remains in hospital for treatment at this time.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been assisting officers with the investigation.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision and police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was travelling near to the scene of the collision on Friday evening who may have seen a blue Ford Fiesta travelling in the area.

They have also asked drivers to check any dashcam footage as they look to build a clearer picture of what caused the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of the police website or by calling 101 quoting log number 718 05/02/21.
