Police and paramedics called after road closed near Consett after driver 'loses control' on icy road

Emergency services remain at the scene of a one vehicle collision in County Durham.

The A691 is currently closed in both directions following the crash near to the Pavilion Restaurant in Consett.

Police say that the car involved "lost control" on the icy road on Tuesday morning.

Footage taken at the scene shows drivers being diverted as police keep the road closed for recovery.

The North East Ambulance service are in attendance but it is not yet known if anyone has been taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to reports of a one vehicle collision near to the Pavilion Restaurant, Consett.

"It involved a Fiat Scudo which is believed to have lost control due to icy road conditions.

"Ambulance are currently on scene and recovery of the vehicle is ongoing.

"The road is currently closed in both directions, please find an alternative route."

The road is currently closed between Iveston Lane (Iveston) to A692 (Leadgate roundabout, Consett).
