Police and firefighters scrambled after cladding falls off Salford apartment block

Police and firefighters were called to a hotel in Salford after cladding 'fell off' an apartment building.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed officers were scrambled to Wilburn Basin on Ordsall Lane near Castlefield after the cladding fell to the ground at around midday on Saturday.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which is thought to have been caused by weather conditions.

Firefighters are understood to have worked to remove the debris while a construction company was called in to make the building secure.

The road was reopened at around 2pm.

Wilburn Basin, which is positioned where Manchester meets Salford, sits next to the River Irwell Basin.

There are four blocks ranging from eight to 21 stories, with a gym, cinema, residents' lounge and meeting rooms, as well as a hotel-style reception and a 24/7 concierge.

A two-bedroom flat in the block can rent for up to £1,100 a month.
