Police and fire service update as road remains closed after huge Mansfield fire

Fire engines remain at the scene of a large industrial blaze in Mansfield. Up to 100 firefighters were on the scene at one point after the incident started at 3.44pm on Saturday, March 18.

The blaze in Forest Road caused clouds of black smoke that could be seen for miles around. Nearby properties in Nottingham Road, Forest Road and Sandhurst Avenue were evacuated just after 4pm. In an update, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said four crews remain at the scene as of Monday morning, March 20.

The service said the fire is mostly extinguished with firefighters turning over rubble to check for hot spots. However, the road remains closed as firefighters, alongside local authority partners, work on clearing debris on Forest Road.

"We are working with local authority partners to clear debris on Forest Road. The road remains closed and we are likely to be in the area for some time.

"A joint fire and police investigation will take place when the area is safe. Thank you to residents for their support and understanding."
