Police and fire crews in Leeds descend on building in Elmwood Lane after flat blaze

A blaze in a flat near Leeds city centre prompted a huge emergency services response this afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, multiple fire engines and police cars were spotted near the Lloyds Banking Group building in Lowell Park Road, Leeds, at around 1pm on Tuesday, February 1.

A driver told LeedsLive that there were "five fire trucks, two fire vehicles and police" at the scene as part of an ongoing incident.

The initial nature of the callout was clear by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have now confirmed they were called to a flat fire in Elmwood Lane earlier today.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We were called at 13.12 to Elmwood Lane to reports of a fire in the kitchen area of a flat.

"Crews from Leeds, Hunslet and Cookridge attended. The fire was extinguished – there are no reports of any injuries."

A police van remained at the scene shortly before 3pm and LeedsLive has also contacted West Yorkshire Police for a statement.
