Police and fire crews called to Scots beauty spot in early morning search for 'man in water'

A major search and rescue operation was launched at a Scots beauty spot after a man was believed to have entered the water.

Police and fire crews raced to Lochore Meadows Country Park, near Lochgelly, Fife, at around 3.30am on Thursday, July 23.

Officers from Police Scotland received a report stating that a man may have ended up in Loch Ore, prompting specialist water rescue units to be called to the scene.

A large scale search of the loch and the islands within it was carried out but no trace of the man has been found.

Police say they are continuing their efforts to trace him and to ensure he is safe and well.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted to assist police in an emergency at Lochore Meadows at 3.31am on Thursday, July 23.

“Crews from Lochgelly and Kirkcaldy fire stations were dispatched as well as water rescue units from Glenrothes and Perth to assist in the search.

“Officers conducted a search of the loch and islands before being stood down at 5.42am.”

A police spokeswoman added: "Around 3.30am on Thursday, 23 July, police received a report that a man may have entered the water at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

“Emergency services attended however there was no trace of anyone and nothing at this time to suggest anyone has entered the water.

“Enquiries are continuing to trace the man involved to ensure that he is safe and well."
