Police and fire brigade swoop on Hamilton hotel after death of man

Police and Scottish Fire and Rescue have swooped on a Hamilton hotel following the death of a man.

Witnessess say police have sealed off a vehicle within the car park at the Hampton by Hilton at Hamilton Park, close to the racecourse on the town’s Bothwell Road.

The death of the man is being treated as “unexplained”.

One resident nearby said:” Fire officers have been in at the car.

“Then they placed a police vehicle directly next to the car in the car park.

“There has been a lot of movement near the car.

“Also, cars trying to access the hotel have been turned away.”

It is not known if the man died in the car or within the hotel proper.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers were made aware of the death of a man within a hotel on Bothwell Road in Hamilton around 12.15pm on Wednesday, 26 February, 2020.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, pending a post mortem examination.”

Another resident said:"The incident occurred around noon this morning, with several units and fire and rescue unit on scene.

"Several pump units, and police units were also in attendance and as I witnessed the incident unfold several units appeared.

"We just continued to watch in shock as the units began to address the situation all day, and most of the evening."
