Police and air ambulance race to Clackmannanshire Bridge

A man has tragically died after falling from the Clackmannanshire Bridge despite medics battling to save him.

Emergency services raced to the scene at around 12.40pm after the alarm was raised by shocked passersby.

The road was locked down by police as rescuers battled to retrieve the man from the Firth of Forth.

An air ambulance landed on the bridge a short time later and the man was taken to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

He was sadly pronounced dead a short time later and his next of kin have now been informed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland were called at 12.40pm on Friday, November 6 after reports of a man in the water at Clackmannanshire Bridge.

“He was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where he died a short time later.

“His next of kin have been informed and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”

The road reopened shortly before 3pm.
