Police, ambulance and fire service presence at Fir Park today as emergency services training held

Members of the public have been informed that there will be a high police, ambulance and fire service presence in Motherwell today.

Emergency services will gather at Fir Park this afternoon for training by the Scottish Ambulance Service, with an increased presence between 1pm and 3pm.

The Major Incident Exercise will provide training in incidents with multiple casualties and has been described as a highly realistic training exercise.

It will include immersive simulation for members of the emergency services and is run by the Ambulance Service Education Department.

A statement from the ambulance service reads: "The Scottish Ambulance Service will be conducting a large scale Major Incident Exercise on Friday (February 21).

"It will be led by the Service’s Education and Professional Development Department, and will have involvement from SCOTSTAR and SORT (Special Operations Response Team). The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland will also be taking part in this exercise.

"The multi casualty exercise will be held from 13.30 to 14.30 at Fir Park Football Stadium in Motherwell. It is expected to the most realistic, current and immersive simulation exercise that have been run to date by the Scottish Ambulance Service Education Department.

"Members of the public have been advised that there may be increased presence of emergency services between 1pm and 3pm."
