Police allege driver blew 0.107 and was doing 150km/hr

Two drivers have been charged after allegedly drink driving and speeding in separate incidents in regional NSW over the weekend.

Hunter highway patrol officers were stationary speed enforcement on the New England Highway at Lower Belford around 9.40pm Friday, when they detected a utility allegedly travelling 150km/h in the signposted 100km/h zone.

The Nissan Navara was stopped, and the 23-year-old male driver returned a positive reading on a breath test, police said. He was arrested and taken to Singleton Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.107.

The man was issued a court attendance notice for mid-range PCA and issued a traffic infringement notice for exceed speed over 45km/h. His licence was suspended on the spot and the registration of his vehicle was cancelled.

The man is due to appear at Singleton Local Court on Thursday, September 17.

In a separate incident, officers from Lake Illawarra Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement on the Princess Highway at Dunmore around 1.55am Sunday, when a white Hyundai i30 was detected travelling 148km/h in the sign posted 100km/h zone.

The Hyundai was stopped, and police spoke with the female driver, an 18-year-old provisional licence holder. She was given a breath test which provided a positive result.

The teenager was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where she allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.116.

The woman was charged with mid-range PCA, and her licence was suspended. She was also issued with a traffic infringement notice for P2 driver exceed speed over 45km/h. She is due to appear at Kiama Local Court on Monday, September 7.
