April 27--Police are warning residents of the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side of a recent string of armed robberies.
Two robberies happened in the 5200 block of West Race Avenue on Saturday. The first robbery occurred about 5:30 a.m., and the second about 9:45 p.m, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.
In both incidents, victims connected with an unknown person over the Internet who would request to meet them. The attacker would rob the victims at gunpoint when they met, authorities said.
Police said they were unsure of the number of suspects but said they were black males between 18 and 24 years old. They are 5-foot-10 to 6 feet and weigh 150 and 190 pounds, according to the statement.
There were two other robberies in the 5100 block of West Madison Street about 6:30 a.m. April 12 and 1:10 a.m. April 20, according to another alert.
Police said during those incidents, attackers approached people while they were inside a gas station, or as they walked out of the station, and robbed them.
In the Madison Street incidents, police said they looking for one or two black men, between the ages of 18 and 25. They are 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10, had dreadlocks and were armed with a handgun, according to authorities.
