BRIEF: Police alert residents of robberies on North Side

May 12--Police are warning residents on the North Side of two armed robberies that happened in the Edgewater and West Ridge community areas last week.

The robberies occurred within five minutes of each other early Wednesday, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.

The first incident happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Sheridan Road, and the second at 3:35 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Pratt Boulevard, according to the statement.

In the robberies, one of two attackers came up to victims outside, displayed a silver handgun and demanded they give up everything they had. In one incident, attackers stole wallets and phones, and in the other they stole property and a victim's vehicle.

Both suspects are described as black men with a medium build who are 25 to 30 years old, according to authorities. They are 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9 and weigh 140 to 180 pounds.

The men were wearing a dark jacket or a hooded sweatshirt, cargo pants and baseball caps, police said.

Anyone with information about the robberies should call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
