Police alert residents of armed robberies on North, Northwest sides

June 27--Police are warning residents of a series of armed robberies that happened over the past month in small retail stores and restaurants on the North and Northwest sides.

Three armed robberies happened between June 9 and Thursday in the Logan Square, Noble Square and Palmer Square neighborhoods, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

In all three incidents, a male attacker carrying a black backpack walked into a small retail store or a restaurant, pulled a black or blue steel pistol out of the backpack or from his waistband and robbed the business, according to the statement.

The latest incident happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of West Armitage Avenue, the statement said.

Another robbery occurred around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, the statement said.

The third incident took place around 10:20 p.m. June 9 in the 2400 block of West Fullerton Avenue.

The suspect is described as a black man, 20 to 21 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10 and weighing between 140 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt, a dark-colored baseball cap, bluejeans and multicolored gym shoes with different colored laces.

The man was seen running toward the CTA Blue Line subway stairs at Division Street and Milwaukee shortly after the robbery Tuesday, police said.

Anyone with information about the three robberies should contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
