Police activate 'Safer Shores' as temperatures along the Ayrshire coast soar

Police have activated their ‘Safer Shores’ scheme as the temperatures rise.

If you are heading to the beach in Irvine or elsewhere in Ayrshire today, you will probably notice more bobbies on the beat.

The ‘Safer Shores ’initiative aims to improve community safety and reduce antisocial behaviour in and around the beaches across Ayrshire over the summer months as well as the associated transport networks.

Additional officers from Police Scotland and British Transport Police will be in and around coastal areas, on trains and at railway and bus stations working with partners to keep people safe in the sun.

Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Mark Hargreaves said: “This operation will be activated to ensure everyone wishing to use the beach in a fun, safe and responsible manner can do so.“We want everyone to enjoy the beaches, however additional officers will be on patrol to deal with any incidents of anti-social behaviour.”
