Poldkar pin up Aidan Turner has revealed he spent his last day on the set of the period drama in bed with his female co-star.
The actor shot his final emotional scenes with Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays his wife Demelza.
Fans were gutted to hear that the fifth series – which starts on BBC tonight – would be the last of the show which is based on the books by Winston Graham.
Turner, 36, revealed: “The very last scene I shot was just myself and Eleanor in the bedroom.
“We spent the day in bed together, which was really strange.
“No love scenes or anything - just having a chat. All day just talking in bed, which felt right.” Hobbit trilogy star Turner, from Clondalkin, West Dublin reflected on his five years playing the smouldering Captain Ross.
He said: “During filming for this series there was a sense of completion and relief that we made it this far, that the show has been successful and people enjoy watching it.
“Walking on to set this year was different - when we would visit a location knowing that it would be the final time it was crazy. The whole series was emotional in that sense.” The star picked up several injuries filming action-packed scenes using real swords for the fifth series which sees Ross embark on a treacherous mission as a government spy.
He revealed: “We were using proper steel ones. They offered rubber ones, but we wanted to just commit and go for it.
“I love doing all of the stunts, and sword fighting is a lot of fun.
“You learn the choreography for the fights, and you’re safe in rehearsals.
“But on the day there is this unsaid thing with actors who are doing fight scenes - that you have to pull it off, and so you really lean into it.
“Also if you use plastic swords they tend to wobble a little, so we had to use the real thing.”
